Drug Rehabilitation- Drug rehabilitation is typically considered long term
inpatient treatment. Treatment is normally provided in a residential community
setting. This form of treatment is ideal for those who have tried to end
drug or alcohol abuse on their own or through other types of treatment
methods. Individuals are able to live at the treatment center and are provided
care twenty-four hours a day seven days a week.
12 Step- 12 step treatment is considered short term inpatient treatment (28 days) for those who
have problems with drug or alcohol abuse or addiction. This form of treatment is
provided at facilities where the individual is able to live
with care provided around the clock. It is one method of treatment that may
be considered as the next step for those who have already tried outpatient treatment. The 12 step philosophy must be maintained throughout ones lifetime to maintain sobriety. This includes attending A A meetings to help maintain sobriety for yourself and others by group support. A A meeting are free of charge.
Substance Abuse Counseling- Substance abuse counseling is a form of drug abuse
treatment usually appropriate for those who have yet to try other treatment
options. It typically is the first step an individual takes towards recovery.
Substance abuse counseling is also appropriate for those who require follow-up
care after completing another form of drug abuse treatment.
AA Meetings- AA meetings are outpatient groups who gather to support one another
in maintaining their sobriety. Individuals are able to attend meetings on a
daily, weekly, or monthly basis. It is up to the individual to decide how often
and how regularly they attend AA meetings. Meetings are considered to be support
sobriety maintenance.
Alternative Treatment- Alternative Treatment is considered non-conventional
drug abuse or addiction treatment that has proven highly successful.
Alternative
treatment is not 12 step and it is not psychiatric treatment. It is in a drug or alcohol
abuse treatment category based on more recent scientific discoveries in the treatment of abuse & addiction.
Drug Treatment-Drug treatment is the use of drugs such as methadone to help with drug withdrawal. Methadone is also used to treat heroin addiction. This form of drug treatment is to help the addict abstain from the use of heroin and other opiates.
Alcohol Treatment- Alcohol treatment is a form of treatment using prescription
medication such as Anatabuse (Disulfiram). This medication is used to treat
chronic alcoholism. It causes unpleasant effects when even small amounts of
alcohol are consumed. These effects include flushing of the face, headache,
nausea, vomiting, chest pain, weakness, blurred vision, mental confusion, sweating,
choking, breathing difficulty, and anxiety. Medication such as this is used
to deter alcoholics from drinking in the hopes that they will want to avoid
the horrible effects experienced if they drink while taking this medication.
This form of treatment is only effective if the individual continues to take
the medication and is willing to take it in the first place.
