Outpatient Treatment in Alabama

Residents in Alabama who are struggling with substance abuse have access to a number of different outpatient treatment options. In fact, over 80% of the treatment programs available in the state are outpatient, including regular and intensive treatment, day treatment and partial hospitalization which are the majority of the outpatient services offers. There are also 14 facilities offering detoxification on an outpatient basis and over 20 programs providing opiate maintenance services. This means that these facilities provide clients with either methadone or buprenorphine to curb opiate withdrawal, for those who have become dependent to heroin, prescription pain killers, or the like and would prefer to use these medical drugs as an outpatient client instead of becoming abstinent completely.

The difference between regular and intensive outpatient treatment services in Alabama has to do with how much time a client spends in treatment at the facility. Typical outpatient treatment requires the individual attend treatment 1 day per week, while intensive outpatient is usually 3 days per week for the entire day. Intensive outpatient in Alabama would be a suitable treatment option for someone who isn't able to attend an inpatient facility but requires more intensive intervention than a regular outpatient program can offer. In either instance, outpatient clients who attend either a regular or intensive outpatient program will take part in counseling sessions in both a group and individuals basis, and may even take part in family therapy or other types of meetings depending on the structure of the programs. Most programs involve the 12 steps for example, and this is the basis of the treatment curriculum unless the program provides alternative therapies such as behavioral modification or other therapies which have been proven to be just as effective as the 12 step model.
