Residents in Kentucky who are struggling with substance abuse have access to nearly 250 outpatient treatment options, and most of the drug rehab programs in the state deliver treatment on an outpatient basis in fact. Around 237 deliver regular outpatient treatment and some of these programs also provide intensive outpatient treatment but far fewer. The main difference being that regular treatment is typically one day a week and IOP's deliver treatment several days per week. There are even fewer day treatment and partial hospitalization services available in Kentucky, with only 17 facilities deliver such services, mainly to clients who require more aggressive intervention. This would be the case with someone with a co-occurring mental health disorder or someone who needs a daily structured environment because of a chronic drug or alcohol problem that haven't been able to get a handle on. There are also 15 facilities offering detoxification on an outpatient basis and over 14 programs which administer opiate maintenance services for those who have become dependent to heroin, prescription pain killers.
Intensive outpatient in Kentucky is the best solution for someone who isn't able to attend an inpatient facility but requires more intensive intervention than a regular outpatient program can offer. In either instance clients participate in both individual and group therapy and counseling sessions and may even take part in family therapy or other types of meetings depending on the structure of the programs. Most programs utilize the 12 step model, and treatment plans are centered around this with some steps tailored to meet the need of each individual client. This is unless the program provides alternative therapies such as behavioral modification or other therapies which have been proven to be effective.
