If a resident in Georgia has a serious drug or alcohol problem, there are a few different types of outpatient treatment available in the state. Nearly 80% of the treatment programs in Georgia are outpatient, so there is no shortage of options which includes both regular and intensive treatment which comprises the majority of services offered. In Georgia, regular outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment services are practically the same in terms of services offered, but regular outpatient treatment program clients are only required to take part in treatment services 1 day per week, whereas intensive outpatient clients are involved in treatment for at least 3 days per week for 9-12 hours per day. But there are also around 50 outpatient facilities which offer day treatment and partial hospitalization for clients who need more intensive treatment and possibly a certain degree of medical intervention in lieu of an inpatient facility. Opiate maintenance outpatient programs in Georgia are those which administer methadone or buprenorphine to opiate dependent clients, so that they don't go through withdrawal and try and get more drugs. This is something that must be administered every day however to work, and many clients are on these medical drugs indefinitely. So for a more permanent drug free solution clients will want to receive counseling and therapy services prior to choosing such a maintenance program to see if this can be resolved without drug therapy which would greatly enhance their quality of life.
